The Mk5 R32 occupies a particularly special place in Volkswagen history. Powered by the naturally aspirated 3.2-litre V6, with 4MOTION four-wheel drive and that unmistakable soundtrack, it was the final six-cylinder Golf R before Volkswagen moved to turbocharged four-cylinder power. Nearly twenty years on, a really good Mk5 R32 still feels special.
The Car
The current custodian is a mature, retired engineer who has taken a particularly conscientious approach to the car, keeping on top of maintenance and addressing jobs as required rather than simply carrying out the bare minimum.
